Calvin Edward Cronan, 66, of Cohutta, Ga., departed this life Tuesday afternoon, April 1, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1948, in Whitfield County, Ga., a son of the late Calvin Isaiah and Cora Lee Stanley Cronan.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a minister of the gospel and attended Redemption Point Church, in Ooltewah.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shelia Cronan, of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Carol Cronan of Rome, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law: Towana and Lamar Williams, Ellen Brown; son-in-law, Tommy Brown, all of Cohutta, Ga.; grandchildren: Taylor Cronan, Cody Cronan, Matt Cronan, Christian Hammontree, Ryan Hammontree, Zack and Sarah Williams and Gracy Brown; great-grandchildren: Bayla Hammontree, Ryder Hammontree and Rylee Williams; brothers: Dennis, Ronald, Alvin and Avery Cronan, all of Cohutta; sister, Sandra Faye Mantooth of Chatsworth, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the his life will be held today, April 3, 2014, at noon at Ponders Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home in Dalton, Ga., with the Rev. Junior Williams officiating.
He will be laid to rest at the Boyd Cemetery in Cohutta with Rodney Cronan, Zack Williams, Tommy Brown, Nathaniel Cronan, Sam Cronan, Chad Stanley, Jeremy Cronan, Jacob Cronan and Shane Stanley serving as pallbearers.
Military graveside honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 112.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 9 a.m. Thursday until the service hour.
