He was a native and resident of McMinn County. He was a son of the late Rev. C.E. and Stella Wade McDonald. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Vancel Bankston, Freda Dockery, Wanda McDonald, Ruth Kyle, Joyce McDonald; and brothers-in-law: the Rev. Cecil McDonald, Bill Kyle, and R.C. Bankston. He had pastored churches in McMinn County including Clearwater Baptist Church and Bangham Heights Baptist Church in Cookeville. He was a member of Goodsprings Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sue Watkins McDonald, of Etowah; two sons and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Kristy McDonald of Athens and Greg McDonald of Knoxville; grandson, Caleb McDonald, brothers and sisters-in-law: Austin McDonald of Athens, Bill and Dixie McDonald of Athens, Charles and Jean McDonald of Cleveland; brothers-in-law, Robert Watkins and Fred Watkins, both of Maryville; sister-in-law, Jean Watkins of Loraine, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March, 27, 2014, at Clearwater Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg Hutsell and Oren Creasman officiating.
Interment will follow in Clearwater Cemetery.
The body will lie in repose from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens.
