Jim Goins,71 a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, in a local hospital.
He was the son of the late Joe V. and Louise Forgey Goins.
He was elected as a Bradley County constable for the 5th District, where starting in 1985 he served for more than 12 years.
He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in the line of duty during his time as constable.
He worked at Jackson Manufacturing for more than 30 years and was a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Chestuee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jewell Goins; daughter, Sandry Howard, and her husband, Travis, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Star, Mary Jane and Travis Howard Jr.; brothers: Bobby Goins and Jerry Goins; his sister, Linda Bledsoe, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Set Free Church with Pastor Gerald Fowler and Pastor James Kent officiating.
Interment will follow at Hilcrest Cemetery with Salem Cobb, Glenn Horstmen, James Harris, Corey Waters, Eric “Girt” Garrett and Sebation Howard serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 8 at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes, and also Friday from noon until service time at the church.
