The Polk County Wildcats opened their District 5-AA baseball schedule with a 10-3 win over the Sweetwater Wildcats Tuesday.
Polk took a 5-0 lead in the second inning and made it 7-0 in the fourth. Sweetwater scored all three of its runs in the fifth. Polk added one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to lock up the win.
Trevor Peels (2 RBIs) and Ben Norwood (1 RBI) led the Polk Wildcats at the plate with three hits each in four trips to the plate. Matt Hammons went 2-3 at the plate and batted in three runs on two hits. Kendrick Tinker also picked up an RBI with two hits in four turns at bat.
Hunter Carter got the win for Polk, going the distance in striking out seven and walking two while giving up two earned runs.
