Charles Dunson has announced his candidacy for constable of the 6th District.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dunson said he’s seeking political office to be a helpmate to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and the legal community. If elected, he said he’s also committed to protecting the welfare of his constituents and providing a voice for the less fortunate and homebound.

“In addition to serving documents for the legal and law enforcement communities, my goal as constable is to be a visible and vocal advocate for those who are bound to their homes because of their age or physical condition,” Dunson said.

“After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, I’ve spent 40 years in the hair profession serving the needs of my clients. In my role as a barber, I frequent local health care facilities and homes on a regular basis and have witnessed first-hand the need for a community activist who has a heart and a passion for his fellow residents.”

Originally from Alabama, Dunson moved to Cleveland in 1991 with his wife, Cheryl. He was appointed to two state boards representing the cosmetology industry by Gov. George Wallace (a Democrat) and Gov. Guy Hunt (a Republican). He’s also a licensed real estate agent.

“My promise to the residents of the 6th District is to represent them with integrity, honesty and compassion,” Dunson said.

“I’m also committed to being accountable and accessible at all times of the day and night.”

Dunson said he’s been a strong supporter of all law enforcement officers, firefighters and medical personnel who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect residents.

He is the father of three grown children and three grandchildren. He and his wife attend Kinser Church of God.

Dunson encourages all voters of the 6th District to contact him with questions or issues about the constable’s office or race. He can be reached at 715-7253.
