The Aldersgate Garden Club met on Feb. 7 for the month of January with three members in attendance. The meeting was held at the home of Margenia McKissic who was hostess for the meeting.

Devotion and Prayer were given by Jackie Westfield, president, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Westfield opened the business meeting. The minutes were omitted and the financial report was given by McKissic, treasurer. The president reminded the members of the upcoming Day of Gardening workshop sponsored by District III at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in East Ridge.

The club was asked to serve as host at the 100 Black Men of Bradley County annual scholarship banquet on March 8 at Lee University. The District III Spring Membership Meeting will be held on March 13 at the Mountain City Club in Chattanooga.

Other events coming up include the Annual TFGC State Convention which will be held April 1 and 2 at the Chattanooga Marriott Hotel. District III will be hosting the convention. Several of the Aldersgate club members have taken on responsibility for various activities during the Convention.

The hostess gave a very informative condensed program on floral design. The two main elements and principles of design are:

(1) Elements of Designs — line, form, color, texture, pattern, size, space and light.

(2) Principles of Design — balance, contrast, dominance, proportion, scale and rhythm.

Members in attendance were given an opportunity to make their own design in accordance with these guidelines. Vases, pots and flowers, along with other materials, were provided by the hostess.

Refreshments and door prizes were given by McKissic. Thanks was giving to the hostess by Kay Cox.
