Shirley Geary DeFriece, 82, of Winder, Ga., passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny H. DeFriece; son, John Henry DeFriece Jr.; parents, Robert Geary and Gladys Lipps; and sister, Barbara Byrd.

She is survived by her children: William Maurice Clayton of Buford, Ga., Geary Wayne Clayton of Eatonton, Ga., Deborah Carol Miller of Livermore, Calif., and Joseph Anthony DeFriece of Winder, Ga.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Nevins of California; brother, Frank Geary of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Ruby DeFriece of Cleveland and Ruth Geary of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Gary, Ind. She had once lived in Cleveland for more than 20 years.

She was a retired after being a secretary at the Insurance Services office in Atlanta for 15 years.

A private interment will be held at McIntyre Cemetery in Birchwood at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Shirley Geary DeFriece.
