The Cleveland Middle School seventh-grade Lady Raiders played their toughest volleyball competition of the season Wednesday night against Ocoee Middle's junior varsity squad. The Colts took the first set 25-15, but the Lady Raiders showed up in the second set, winning 16-2. The match came down to the last set to determine a winner. The Lady Raiders responded, playing solid volleyball to take the win by a score of 15-11.,

"We started off really flat tonight," said seventh-grade coach Trish Flowers. "The girls seemed to be distracted by everything around them. Once they settled down and started having fun, we gained the momentum and kept it. We served more consistently in the second two sets and a couple of adjustments in the lineup helped. My team is very versatile so I can pretty much change anything and the girls can step up to the plate."

Key players in the win were Sydni Geren with 10 aces, Nicole Glaser with five aces, Olivia Jabaley with four aces, and Anna Renshaw with four kills.

The win over Ocoee brings the Cleveland junior varsity to 16-1. The only loss came from East Hamilton, the team the Lady Raiders beat to win the Bear Paw championship at Bradley Central.

Cleveland's next match will be at home against Dayton City on Friday. The seventh grade will play at 4:30 p.m. with the eighth grade following at 5:30.
