George W. “Dickie” Haun, 75, a resident of Birmingham, Ala., for more than 40 years and formerly of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, in a local health care facility.
He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1960, and retired as an investment advisor from Prudential Securities after 28 years of service.
He was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham. He enjoyed Bible study, football and old movies, and was the founder of the Big Orange Club of Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Estel Haun and Lillian Mae Gee Haun.
Survivors include his children: George Wendell Haun Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Baton Rouge, La., and Grayson Haun Parks and husband, Edwin, of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren: Anthony Haun and Alex Haun, both of Baton Rouge; brothers: J.T. Haun and wife, Dorothy, of Cleveland and Harry Haun and wife, Martha, of Rossville, Ga.; sister, Barbara Foster of Fort Collins, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wickes officiating.
Interment will follow in New Friendship Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
