David Lee Smith, 58, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in a local hospital.
He was employed with First Fleet Incorporated. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion and AM Vets. He was the national director of membership for the 40&8 Society.
He was the son of the late Clyde R. Smith and Mary R. Headrick Smith. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Smith, of Cleveland; three children: Michael David Smith and wife, Jessica, of Huntington, W.Va., Richard Jason Smith and wife, Leah, of Cookeville and Jonathan Marc Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren; one brother, Richard Smith and wife, Mary, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Harris officiating. The eulogy will be given by the 40&8.
Interment will follow in the veteran’s section of Fort Hill Cemetery, with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
