While the Wildkittens (9-13) were handed a 47-20 defeat by the Lady Seahawks (21-5), the Wildcats (6-17) came away with a 68-50 victory over the Seahawks (3-17).
Despite starting out the game with a six-point deficit after the first quarter, the Wildcats were able to strike back and come away with a win over the Seahawks.
Polk County took the lead by the end of the first half, adding 19 points to the scoreboard while Silverdale Academy was only able to add 10.
With a three-point, 28-25 lead to start the second half, the Wildcats continued their offensive charge, racking up 21 more points to the Seahawks nine points in the third quarter.
Polk and Silverdale were more evenly matched in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 and 16 points respectively, but the Wildcats remained in control and took the game 68-50.
Cody Groomes racked up 31 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Wildcats, and hit seven of the team’s nine 3-pointers.
Devin Weber finished with 12 points, four rebounds and four steals in the game.
Blake Cross had five rebounds in the game, while Gage Locke had six assists.
LADY SEAHAWKS 47,
Things began on the slow side in the girls’ game Monday night, with the Lady Seahawks taking a 4-3 lead over the Wildkittens after the first quarter.
Silverdale sprang to life in the second quarter though, outscoring Polk 19-9.
Trailing 23-12 at the start of the second half, the Wildkittens were only able to net three more points in the third quarter to the Lady Seahawks’ 11 points.
Polk finished out the game with five more points in the fourth quarter, while Silverdale further solidified their 21st win with 13 more points.
Bella Liner led the Wildkittens with nine points and four steals, which came from a trio of 3-pointers.
Heather McClain had six points and nine rebounds, while Makayla McClary hit a trey and had eight rebounds and three steals.
Hannah Withrow finished with two points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
Polk County will be back in action Friday when it hosts District 5-AA leader McMinn Central.
