“It is always an honor to be asked by the Speaker of the House to open session. It was a double honor to be asked to introduce the minister of the day and lead the Pledge on the very first day. The request reminded me that I am exactly where the Lord wants me to be,” stated Brooks.
Brooks also took the opportunity to announce to his friends and neighbors that he will seek a new term in the upcoming elections.
Brooks took to social media to announce he had filed his petition with the local election officials to seek re-election in 2014.
“My family and I have prayed and agree that serving our friends and neighbors in the 24th District is our greatest calling. I am honored that my family members were the first signatures on my ballot petition. I asked them first for their prayers then their vote in that order.”
The four-term legislator has served in various leadership roles since his 2006 election and now serves as House Assistant Majority Leader.
Brooks was appointed by the speaker of the house to the important House Finance Ways and Means Committee, as well as the House Budget-Sub Committee. He also serves on the full House Education Committee which is expected to be very busy this session.
Speaker Beth Harwell, speaking about Rep. Brooks stated, “Rep. Brooks is a man of integrity with a message of faith. He brings a moral compass to the House Chamber and we look to him as a standard bearer of true north. His work in leadership and in committees continues to be an integral part of the Republican majority and our goals for Tennessee.”
“Serving in the ‘People's House’ continues to be the fulfillment of a dream and the greatest honor of my life. To be chosen by your friends and neighbors to be their voice in the legislature is a gift to me and my family. We cherish this gift given to us by our community. We honor this gift with integrity and goodness, and we seek to serve with the greatest level of compassion and humility possible. We are grateful for the opportunity to help our friends and neighbors,” stated Rep. Brooks.
