Sandra Faye Lewis Pierce, 65, of the Hillsview Community, near Riceville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Erlanger Medical Center after a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of the Hillsview Community, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Dorothy Belle Hill Lewis.

She was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church where she served as pianist. She was a board member for the Friends of the Library for E.G. Fisher Public Library in Athens and a longtime member of Preceptor Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She was a graduate of Calhoun High School, West Georgia University and received her master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She retired from the McMinn County School System in 2010 after teaching for 36 years. Her entire teaching career was spent at Riceville Elementary School. She was an avid reader and loved reading to her students. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping and spending time at the beach with her family. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, David Pierce of Riceville; two daughters and one son-in-law: Amy Seidner and her husband, Bart, of Cumming, Ga., and Abby Pierce of Nashville; four grandchildren who were the light of her life: Zachary Seidner (8), Carter, Blake and Katie Belle Seidner (3), who lovingly called her MoMo; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Barry Derrick of Riceville; her mother-in-law, Polly Pierce of Athens; sisters and brothers-in-law: Deborah and Larry McFarland of Cleveland, Devonda and Lee Dockery, of Kennesaw, Ga. and Denise and Jon Sorah of Calhoun; nieces and nephews: Suzanne Arceneaux of Gonzales, La., Paul Sorah of Atlanta, Ga., Grant McFarland of Nashville, Andrew Sorah of Calhoun; and one great-niece, Olivia Arceneaux of Gonzales, La.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Short Creek Baptist Church, 892 County Road 50, Athens, with the the Rev. Vic King, Dr. Tony Crisp, and the Rev. Martin Bolin officiating. Interment will be in Short Creek Cemetery.

The family of Sandra Faye Lewis Pierce will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
