Michael Ray Wagner, 64, a resident of Cohutta, Ga., passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 11, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 30, 1949, in Cleveland, a son of the late C. Ray Wagner.
He attended and was a member of the first graduating class of Cleveland High School in 1967. He went on to attend Cleveland State Community College and was a graduate of its first graduating class, in 1969. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was of the Church of God faith.
He worked for the Verizon Corporation in Atlanta as an account manager for more than 20 years. His hobbies included gardening, raising herbs, fishing, sightseeing and traveling, to name just a few.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, J.C. and Avis Wagner; and maternal grandparents, Lewis and Roxie Stepp.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Emmlee Wagner Carroll; one brother, Chris Wagner and his companion, Tammie Kurrin; niece, Nichole Wagner; nephew, Matt Wagner; his best friend, Greg Boston and his family; and numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for tonight, Dec. 13, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Stuart Park Baptist Church, 850 17th St. N.W. in Cleveland with the Rev. Roger Stepp and Pastor Ken Bowers officiating.
The family will receive friends today at the church from 5 until the 7 p.m. service time.
Interment and committal service will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
