James Arthur DeFur, 65, a lifelong resident of McDonald, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in the veterans hospital in Nashville.
He was born on June 23, 1948, a son of the late George DeFur.
He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving his country during the Vietnam era.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Bob Pevehouse.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Virginia Pevehouse of McDonald; two daughters: Tracie Peters and her husband, Mathew, of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Stacy “Alex” Defur of Dayton; son, Jeffrey Chambers and wife, Piper, of Joshua, Texas; five grandchildren: Kahne and Zane Chambers of Joshua, Walter Peters of Winthrop Harbor and Damien and Lexi DeFur, both of Dayton; two sisters: Jerry DeFur and Joyce DeFur, both of Cleveland; and several other extended family members and friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the parlor of Companion Funeral Home, 2415 Georgetown Road.
The family will receive friends in the parlor from noon until the 2 p.m. service time. The service will conclude with military honors.
