Cleveland Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at an apartment complex during the weekend, which displaced two families.

The Hiwassee Chapter of the American Red Cross is aiding those families.

According to reports, the fire was located at 846 2nd St.

Officials were notified just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the structure fully involved in flames.

Chief Steve Haun said the structure was a duplex-style and a part of Cleveland Public Housing.

Bradley County Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene as well to aid firefighters and the occupants of the dwellings.

No injuries were reported.

Cause of the fire is under investigation and no dollar amount regarding loss was listed, according to 911 reports.

Two men were arrested Friday after a homeowner was awakened, startling the alleged burglars who left the vehicle they had been driving at the scene.

Walter Leon Grigsby, 46, and Zachery Dwaine Davis, 29, were charged at the Bradley County Jail with two counts of burglary, aggravated burglary, two counts of auto burglary and one count of theft under $500.

According to Bob Gault, Media Relations coordinator for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Ladd Springs Road address regarding a burglary-in-progress call received by Bradley County 911.

A dog reportedly alerted the homeowner, who found the front door to his residence open.

Upon their arrival, deputies found a pickup truck in the driveway of the residence. A number of items, which had been taken were in the bed of the truck, according to Gault.

Grigsby and Davis had left the scene on foot, but deputies were able to track them down a short time later.

Detective Dewayne Scoggins was in charge of the follow-up investigation.

Property was recovered and the vehicle used in the burglary was impounded.

Investigation is continuing.
