The Rev. J.D. Stump, 78, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was the son of the late Mrs. Eddie Rowe Stump and the Rev. Wheeler Stump. His daughter, Pamela Gorby; his son-in-law, Toney LaMar; his sister, Clara Coleman; and his brothers: Ballard, Clinton and Wheeler Stump Jr. also preceded him in death.

He was born and raised in Pinsonfork, Ky. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. After honorably serving his country in the military he married the love of his life, Brenda Stacey.

He served as a minister in the Church of God for 57 years. Throughout his ministry, he served as senior pastor to 12 churches across the country. He was also given the honor of Church of God Evangelism Director for the State of Michigan and National Evangelist for the Church of God. He was devoted to studying the word of God and passionately preached the gospel to his congregations. His legacy will be remembered as a true man of God, with love and compassion for those which he served. His dedication to the Lord, and his family, will never be forgotten in the hearts of those he loved. His contagious smile, and energetic spirit, will long last the test of time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a faithful servant of God.

Survivors include his devoted, loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Stump; his daughter, Alinda LaMar; granddaughters: Kimberly Brooke Lankford and her husband, Curtis, and Kristin Lynn Rader and her husband, Eric; his great-granddaughter, Alayna Brooke; his former son-in-law, the Rev. Bob Renfro and his daughters husband at the time of her death, the Rev. Justin B. Gorby; his sisters: Bernice Rice and Joy Ratliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
