Cleveland State Community College will be hosting a Food Day event in conjunction with Octoberfest on Wednesday.
This event will be held on the Cleveland State campus and will include activities on the hill beside the Student Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an afternoon movie screening of “A Place at the Table.”
The morning program will include a showing of “Food Forward: Urban Agriculture Across America,” which is a half-hour, character-driven survey of urban farming across the country. ‘
Additionally, the college will have poster presentations from the Principles of Nutrition and English Composition classes to highlight Food Day themes, as well as information from local farmers, local food security organizations, other nonprofits and a food drive sponsored by the CSCC Social Work Club. Donations from the food drive will be given to The Caring Place.
In the afternoon, there will be a showing of “A Place at the Table” in collaboration with The North Georgia Health District WIC Program. The showing will take place in the Humanities building, room H127, at 1:30 p.m.
“A Place at the Table” shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for the country.
The afternoon event will end with a panel discussion on hunger and food access in the community.
