Robert “Bob” Johnson, 89, of Cleveland, passed away, Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from trucking for Bishop Baking Co. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 414, Ducktown. He was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Tabernacle for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ollie Johnson of Farner; brothers: Johnny, Gordon and Billy Johnson; and sisters: Eula Mae Cheatham and Margaret Carver.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elease Gibson Johnson; sons: Robert “Poochie” Johnson and wife, Karen, and Mike “Weasel” Johnson and wife, Marilyn; grandchildren: Melissa and Brian Beaty, Tasha and Phillip Whitted and Zack Johnson; great-grandchildren: Cole and Morgan Beaty and Blake Whitted; sister, Mable Payne of Asheville, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Grissom Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ronnie Childress and Ronnie Cantrell officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with his nephews serving as pallbearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Arrangements are being handled by Mark S. Grissom, funeral director.
