Today, there are still people in the community who will go without during the holiday, unless someone steps up and volunteers to help them.
The William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund is again stepping up to raise money and provide approximately a 1,000 baskets of food to needy families this year.
In 2012, 980 boxes of food staples were given out just before Christmas. The goal was $24,000, which was not met until after the baskets were given out.
The Basket Fund is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) enitity. It is through the donations of the community that the boxes are filled each year, noted Todd Duggan, basket fund coordinator.
The basket fund has no corporate sponsors, although some local businesses have provided assistance in the past.
The registration for the boxes will be held on Nov. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Museum Center.
The boxes will be picked up on Dec. 21 at Tri-State Warehouse.
Donations to the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund may be sent to First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 4880, Cleveland, TN 37320-4880 or dropped off the donation at First Tennessee Bank on Keith Street.
