‘Discover ... Your Roots’ today at History Branch

Join us today to “Discover….Your Roots” at the Craigmiles-Johnston House History Branch Library from 2 to 3 p.m.

Beginning researchers will get an overview of the print and electronic research tools available through the library, followed by a discussion of best practices for conducting genealogy research. Topics covered include HeritageQuest, Ancestry.com, GenWeb, Fold3 and the special collections housed in the History Branch.

Teen Reading Week begins Oct. 14 with a Rocket Launch! We will be making and launching rockets created from old soda bottles. “Rockets” are for ages 13-17, but families are welcome to watch the launch! If you would like to make your rocket before the launch — or if you have any questions, email teenzone@clevelandlibrary.org for instructions.

Teen Reading Week ends with the Hunter’s Moon Masquerade and After Hours Oct. 18 from 7 to 11 p.m. Costumes are welcome. Bring your telescope for a bit of “moon” gazing and we may spy a fairy or two.( For teens 13-17.)

There will be a library tour on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. beginning in the lobby. This is a way to see the behind the scene action at your library. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and no reservations are required.

“Star Trek: Into Darkness” will be shown on the big screen for all ages in the Community Room on Oct. 19 from noon to 3 p.m. Feel free to come in costume, and popcorn will be served.

Friends of the Library Association’s Fall Author Luncheon reservations are still being accepted at the library for Oct. 24 at the Cleveland Country Club. Merchant’s Alley will include: Orange Blossom, Bryant’s Garden Center, Silpada Jewelry, Cleveland Therapeutic Massage, Red Ribbon, The Shoe Tree, Audrey Lea’s Ladies Boutique, Miche purses and NYR Organics. The cost for the luncheon is $35 per person.

Due to a change in the library’s automation system, the library will be closed from Nov. 11-15. No items checked out will be due during this closure. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. on Nov. 15th.
