An additional piece of paper will accompany Bradley County property tax statements this year.

The document will highlight some of the things happening in Bradley County Schools.

“One thing we have is a lot of questions from taxpayers every year. ‘Where’s my money going?’” Bradley County Trustee Mike Smith said. “I think 66 percent of the funds that come in go to county schools.”

Smith said partnering with the school system presented an opportunity to give the information. For the school system, it allows officials to reach a large audience while saving money on postage.

“We are real excited about being able to send this out,” Smith said. “It is going to be a tremendous asset to the school system and the community.”

The newsletter will reach 24,000 different locations by being inserted with the property tax bill.

“(Bradley County Director of Schools Johnny) McDaniel and I think if this is well received by the community then this possibly will become a yearly thing,” Smith said.

Property tax bills should be mailed out in mid-October, Smith said.

McDaniel said he appreciated the opportunity to partner with the Trustee’s Office to present the information to the community.

In the next year or so the Trustee’s Office will begin offering electronic statements via email. There will still be the opportunity for the school newsletter to be attached to this.

The idea to have a newsletter promoting the school system was originally mentioned when the Bradley County Board of Education was establishing goals for the year.

The newsletter was developed by the school director’s office. The document was reviewed by the board before the final draft was submitted to the Trustee’s Office. In the future, school board members may be more involved in the process to present information about the school board and its function.

This year the newsletter features information about the system’s finances, success and accomplishments of the school system, grants it has received and the Coordinated School Health program.
