Over the weekend the Walker Valley junior varsity volleyball team finished as the runner-up in its most recent tournament.

The Lady Mustangs were topped by Ooltewah in the finals, two sets to one. After winning the first 25-19, Walker Valley saw the Lady Owls go on to win 25-17 and 15-12 for the tournament title.

This was the JV team’s first loss this season, and the squad is now 17-1 overall.

“We went into the tournament undefeated with the mindset of winning it all. It’s upsetting that the last few points didn’t go our way, but that doesn’t change how the girls have played all season long,” coach Aubrey Reagan said. “It’s a rare occasion for a coach to have the opportunity to work with a group of kids who are as talented, hardworking, and likable as these girls are. Bottom line, second place out of 16 teams is impressive, and I am proud.”

In pool play, the Lady Mustangs topped Silverdale 25-6 and 25-15, and Boyd-Buchanan 25-7 and 25-10. Walker Valley also played Ooltewah in pool play, and after dropping its first set 25-22, WV came back to win 25-21 and 15-11.

In tournament play, the JV Lady Mustangs defeated East Hamilton 25-16 and 25-12, and secured their spot in the finals after beating Cleveland 25-21 and 25-9.
