There will be three levels of classes at each location: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The classes will provide practice with English speaking, reading and writing, as well as learning history and civics questions for the test at both locations.
The classes are designed to help naturalization applicants who have had a green card for two years, if obtained through marriage to a U.S. citizen, or four years if obtained by other means. Children under 18 years of age who also have permanent residency automatically become U.S. citizens the day their parents are sworn in and become citizens. Green card holders within six months of their 18th birthday may also be eligible to take the classes.
There is a $50 fee for class materials. Additional co-sponsors of the classes are the Chattanooga Catholic Deanery Office of Hispanic Ministry, Catholic Charities of East Tennessee’s Office of Immigrant Services, UT’s Center for Literacy, Education, and Employment, and Bridge Refugee Resettlement Services.
