Burch charged with the rape of a child

A Cleveland man was arrested this week and charged with rape of a child after the mother of the child reportedly witnessed the incident.

Steven Lee Burch, 51, was charged by Cleveland Police Department after he allegedly engaged in a sexual act with an 11-year-old female. Burch has an Elrod Place address, according to Bradley County Jail records.

Burch was taken into custody after the victim’s mother notified 911 to file a report regarding the incident.

According to CPD Information Officer Evie West, the case is still under investigation and additional charges are expected.

Burch is being held at the Bradley County Jail under $500,000 bond.

- A scooter was reported stolen from an Eastview Terrace location and the offender apparently vandalized it before taking it, according to a report filed by deputy Kevin Chastain of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher Kitt told Chastain that his 2008 Chonning scooter was taken sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday. The report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

Kitt said the perpetrator broke a luggage rack from the scooter and left it at the scene.

The scooter was valued at $600.

- Terrenzo L. Johnson, 31, of a Charleston address, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary after deputies with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 35th Street address in reference to a burglary in progress.

According to reports, after arriving on the scene, deputies were told that a man armed with a handgun had entered the residence through a basement window, but had fled the scene driving a car.

Deputies spotted the car parked on the roadway nearby. Johnson was taken into custody after he was located on foot.

He was taken to the Bradley County Jail and booked on the charge.

- A gun safe was found by Polk County officials, which led to the discovery of a home burglary in during which more than $10,000 in property was taken.

According to a report filed by Bradley County deputies, the Bradley County 911 Center had received a call concerning the recovery of the safe. Inside the safe was an address which led to further investigation.

Patrol deputies responded to a Sipes Road address where they found the door to a residence had been left standing open.

The owner of the residence was contacted and arrived home where he also reported two saws, a TV, a gaming station, three laptop computers, four nail guns, a camera, jewelry items and two firearms missing.

Investigation is continuing.
