Cleveland Christian School returned to the volleyball court Monday evening for a much-anticipated match with the Chattanooga Patriots.

After losing 3-2 several weeks back, the Lady Crusaders (5-10) had a game plan that proved successful by night’s end. The CCS ladies took a commanding lead in game one, making an early statement with a 25-6 win and closing out the night with a 3-0 sweep.

Coach John Mathis said after the match, “They played with a chip on their shoulder tonight, and played as a team. We had several good runs, including quality serving from Jennifer Corbitt and Savannah Morgan, who finished game one by serving the final nine points.”

Game two was a bit closer but the Lady Crusaders won 25-23, setting up an eventual final game three. Serving was again key as Cleveland Christian had a couple good serving runs by Hope Nix and Acacia Thompson.

“Our record might not reflect it, but my team seems to be making progress. I think this all sets up nicely for our rematch at TCPS Tuesday evening. Emily Sexton is coming on strong and Hope and Acacia seem to be hitting their spots. I’m excited to see what happens tomorrow. We lost on the final point last meeting, 3-2. My girls are ready,” said Mathis.

Acacia Thompson led the offense with four kills, two aces and two digs, followed by Hope Nix, who had seven assists and an ace. Emily Sexton had a good match with a block, two digs, two kills, and two aces. Jennifer Corbitt had three aces, a kill and a dig. Savannah Morgan and Faith Nix had two digs each.
