The Cleveland Middle School sixth-grade football team defeated the Lake Forest Bruins 24-8 on Tuesday at Lake Forest.

The Raiders’ offense was led by Antonnio Whaley on the ground with two long touchdown runs, and Jyren Hammonds in the air with long passes to Parker Chastain, Clark Lockerby and Robert Flowers.

The Raiders defense was led by Johnny Gregg, Austin Allen, Burns Meagher, and Davion Horton. Hammonds, Lockerby, Chastain and Flowers contributed to the defensive strength as well.

CMS coach Eric Mountain said, “I am proud of our total team effort. We came over here and executed Blue Raider football against a good Lake Forest team.

“Our offensive line did a great job creating holes for our backs, and giving our quarterback enough time to throw. Our defense was flying to the football, and almost had another shutout.

“The second team guys came in and battled and kept the Bruins scoreless until the final seconds. Hats off to Lake Forest for not giving up, and scoring on their final drive.”

The sixth-grade Blue Raiders will play again Saturday against Ocoee at Charleston Elementary at 10 a.m.
