The Lady Crusaders of Cleveland Christian 3-6 (3-4 in SCAA) were on the road Tuesday night as they took on Oakwood Christian in Chickamauga, Ga., in volleyball action.
It was the Crusaders’ first game back in SCAA conference play since losing a close 3-2 match to the Chattanooga Patriots Friday evening. This time, the Lady Patriots fought hard but fell 3-0 to Chickamauga.
The evening belonged to Oakwood as it quickly took games one and two by scores of 25-2, 25-12. The Crusaders picked up play in the third game, still falling short 25-20.
"We faced a quality team that made little or no mistakes tonight. On our end, there was little or no communication," said coach John Mathis after the match. “Too many missed opportunities turned into points for Oakwood. I've said it before, but our conference is strong this year. Any number of teams will be in it at the end of the season.”
Hope Nix had three assists and a dig. Acacia Thompson led the offense with three kills and a dig. Savannah Morgan had a block and a dig. Jennifer Corbitt added a kill and an ace.
Cleveland Christian will face Polk County in a special student game at 1:30 p.m. in Benton on Friday. Saturday, Cleveland Christian will host TCPS with the middle school starting at noon and varsity immediately following.
