The 2013 River Worship Center’s Fall Fashion Show is set for Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., at Lee University’s Dixon Center. All the clothes are purchased from local and out of town Thrift Stores with proceeds from ticket sales going to Mercy’s Door children’s homes.
Last year the gala event raised just over $10,000 for charity and coordinators are hoping it will shatter that record this year.
This year’s fashion style will be a “Great Gatsby” era trend mixed with Bohemian chic, according to Machelle McCulley, one of the show’s models and coordinators.
“This is the trend for the fall!” she said. “We put all the clothes together to make a New York style show. It will be spectacular! You will be amazed at the beautiful clothing and how inexpensively we have purchased them. Immediately after the show the outfits will be available for purchase in our boutique. Cash, credit card or checks may be used.”
All of the models are local volunteers as well as girls from Mercy’s Door children's home. Area hair designers, makeup artists and even celebrity makeup artist Mikel Cain will also be volunteering to get the models ready for their runway walk.
“Encouraging and equipping ladies for today’s challenges has long been a passion of mine, along with fashion,” McCulley said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to bring the two together as a ministry outreach of RWC and a fun outing with both. We are thankful for Lee University allowing us to use the Dixon Center for our venue and the local business community for sowing into the lives of local children who need a hand up as well. It’s a great opportunity to show these kids we’re here for them as a community.”
