Mildred Helton Newman, 87, of Cleveland, formerly of the Copper Basin area, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Emily Padgett Helton; and her husband, the Rev. John Newman.

She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church,

She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Doug) Hughes of Ducktown; sister, Betty Denton of Chattanooga; two grandchildren: Darrin (Donna) Hughes of Ducktown and Dwayne Hughes of Cleveland; and two great-grandchildren, Koby and Kendall Hughes, both of Ducktown.

The funeral was held today, Aug. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill with the Revs. Bill Maughan and Harold Willis officiating.

Music was by Janice Reid. Pallbearers included Glen Hughes, Keith Dilbeck, Keith Hayes, James Kelly, Larry Coker and Harold Dale.

Interment followed in Zion Hill cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
