ATLANTA — Not only is the Lee women’s basketball leaving the NAIA as a runner-up in the 2013 National Tournament, the Lady Flames are also being singled out as one of the nation’s top academic squads.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women’s basketball teams across the nation in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA, and junior/community colleges that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.

The 2012-13 season is the 18th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls. Fourteen of the top 25 teams — five in NAIA Division I, including the Lady Flames, and nine in NAIA Division II — earned berths in the NAIA national tournaments in their respective divisions.

“This is another great accomplishment for last year’s group. To be committed on the court and also in the classroom is something that our program is very proud of,” said Lee head women’s basketball coach Marty Rowe.

“To be able to finish our program’s run in the NAIA with such a wonderful group has been so rewarding and a lot of fun.”
