He was the son of the late Horace Melton Sr. and Lena Garner Melton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice “Laverne” Goodwin Melton; and a son, Roy Steven Melton.
He was retired from Maytag with more than 35 years of service and was also retired from the Army National Guard with more than 38 years of service to his country.
He was a member of The River Hills Church of God in Ocoee.
Left to cherish his memories are his children: Horace L. Melton and his wife, Helen, Beverly Murray, and Sandy Dillard and her husband, Craig, all of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters: June McCracken and Louise Ogle, both of Cleveland, Jimmie Robinson of Chattanooga, Shelby Clark of Cleveland; one brother, the Rev. Randall Melton of Asheville, N.C. and what he termed was his grafted family and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the River Hills Church of God with Pastor Mike Restor and Daron Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hilcrest Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 9 at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
