The couple opened the store near Big Kmart on May 1 to a warm welcome from the community that propelled it to the top among 23 new store locations in the nation on friends and family day. Friends and family days are typically bimonthly sales events where everything is marked an additional 10 percent off beyond regular retail and announced sale prices.
In addition, the local store ranked in the top five among 126 stores in the South Central Region and fourth in credit share, a key indicator of how many customers do business with the Sears credit card.
“We are just really pleased with the reception we’ve received from the community,” Greg Hamilton said.
During the grand opening, Andrew Johnson won a $250 gift certificate.
“What a nice man he is,” Hamilton said. “It was nice to do something for such a kind person.”
Greg and Wendy's 8,500-square-foot Hometown Store is located on the west end of the mall across the corridor from the Big Kmart where a wide selection of well-known Sears brands such as Kenmore appliances, Craftsman tools, lawn and garden products, and DieHard car and boat batteries are offered.
