Thomas W. Holcomb, 85, of Rocky Face, Ga., died peacefully at his home, Wednesday, June 26, 2013.

He was a well-known businessman in the West Side community.

He was born in Murray County, Ga., in 1927 and was raised in Cohutta, Ga.

He worked for White Wing Publishing Co. in Cleveland, where he met and married Halcie Uneeda Calfee in 1949. They built and opened West Side Savings Store in 1955 and have operated various businesses in the West Side community for the last 58 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Halcie Calfee Holcomb in 2002; his parents, Oscar and Lola Pritchett Holcomb; brother, Kenneth Holcomb; and sister, Eloise Lanier.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Ernie Sartin; daughter, Gail Tidwell; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Mary Holcomb Jr., all of Rocky Face; grandchildren: Michelle Tidwell of Atlanta, Benjamin and Tonya Tidwell of Rocky Face, Kristopher and Candace Tidwell of Kennewick, Wash., Heath Hall and Hunter Hall, both of Rocky Face, Christina and David Hooper of Rossville, Ga., Danielle and Dominick Phipps of Soddy-Daisy; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Michael Seay, Hannah and Caleb Kollock, Sarah Kate Tidwell, Reagen Tidwell and Jaden Phipps; brothers: Claude Holcomb of Rocky Face, Raymond and Laurie Holcomb of Lakeland, Fla., Frank and June Holcomb of McDonough, Ga.; sister, Cora Mae Bailey of Cohutta; brothers-in-law: Virgil Calfee of Cleveland and Igean and Mary Elizabeth Calfee of Charleston; sisters-in-law: Ruth Calfee Cartwright of Cleveland and Roxie and Henry Wyatt Sr. of Old Fort; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers: Barbara Bean, Sheila Hullender and Angela Henderson.

The funeral to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Westside Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home in Rocky Face, Ga., with Bros. Henry Wyatt Sr. and James Davenport officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Cleveland.

The family will receive friends at Westside Chapel on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service time at 4 p.m.
