Bradley County Sheriff Jim Ruth remains hospitalized for observation in a Nashville hospital after experiencing a medical problem.

According to officials at the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, Ruth began experiencing nausea and dizziness while attending the Tennessee Sheriff’s Assocation meeting this week.

Ruth will remain hospitalized for a few more days for additional testing, according to Chief Deputy Wayne Bird.

Ruth and Bird were attending special training by the FBI Thursday when he began experiencing sickness. As a precaution, he was hospitalized at Tri-Star Summit Medical Center in Hermitage for testing.

According to a media release by Bob Gault, Ruth suffers from atrial fibrillation, “a condition which is controlled by medication. ‘A-fib’ occasionally causes tiny blood clots resulting in stroke-like symptoms.

“The sheriff is alert, responding well to his medication and giving instructions from his hospital room,” Gault said.

Bird said he plans to visit the sheriff Sunday.

“When I left Nashville the other day, he seemed to be in good spirit,” Bird said.

A full recovery is expected, according to Gault.

“Ruth appreciates the prayers and concerns of all,” Gault said.
