The emergency response call recognized was one to Rubbermaid in Cleveland on Jan. 23, 2012. Employee David Simonds suffered a cardiac arrest. The key to his survival was the quick activation of 911 and implementation of the on-site AED by John Montgomery and Jim Floyd, also of the company. The EMS Star of Life event is designed to honor the accomplishments of EMS personnel from all regions of Tennessee who provide exemplary life-saving care to adult and pediatric patients. The goal of the award is to recognize exceptional front-line care, with a focus on agencies and providers who are the initial care responders.
The ceremony included a presentation of the actual adult or pediatric patient scenarios and reunited the EMS caregivers with the individuals they treated. Recipients were chosen from each of the eight EMS regions in the state. This is the premier event in Tennessee to recognize and honor the excellent pre-hospital providers. The awards presentation took place May 23 at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. Bradley County Emergency Medical Service, Cleveland/ Bradley 911, The Cleveland Fire Department, and first responders from Rubbermaid were recognized and received a Star of Life pin and trophy. The survivor, David Simonds, and his wife Ashley were on stage as well. David received the Survivor’s Award.
This is the fourth year Bradley County EMS has won this prestigious award since its inception five years ago.
The organization that is responsible for this entire event is the Tennessee Emergency Services for Children. They recognized emergency services from all eight regions in Tennessee for responses to adult and pediatric emergency calls. Bradley County EMS is in Region 3.
“It is humbling to once again see our dedicated paramedics and EMT’s be recognized for their hard work and outstanding patient care. I am very proud of them,” said BEMS Chief Danny Lawson.
