Capt. Alfreada McKissic Henley Westfield has announced her retirement effective June 1.

Westfield served as a public health nutritionist to San Lucy, Fort McDowell, Salt River Pima and Payson-Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) communities in Arizona since February 2005.

USPHS Commissioned Corps is a branch of national health care management and service under the direction of the US Surgeon General.

Westfield accumulated 17 USPHS awards over her career since 1991 and received five half marathon competition medals since 2006.

The patients she served in Arizona are the recipients of nutrition education, physician referral consultations, healthy lifestyle community programs, senior/ youth programs in addition to the SW Dietetic Intern Program community preceptors staff to college graduates, according to Westfield.

The program prepares students for the National Dietetics Registration exam.

A native of Cleveland, Westfield was the daughter of Homer Eugene and Anna McKissic Henley.

She graduated from Loudon High School. At East Tennessee State University, she began as a psyc nursing major, but “followed her heart and embraced nutrition with a minor in childhood nutrition.”

She received her master’s degree in industrial technology nutrition and doctorate of ministries.

Among her career positions, Westfield served as a Bradley/ Cleveland senior programs director; state public health nutritionist; nutrition consultant, Taif, Saudi Arabia; alternative high school coordinator at Roane State College; commissioned USPHS officer, 1991; nutrition services director, SEARHC Alaska; state of Tennessee Mental Health Program self-employed nutrition consultant; Bradley Memorial Hospital dietitian; and USPHS public health nutritionist.

Capt. Westfield is married to retired police officer Lt. Luther Westfield. The couple have three children — Heather, Garnett and Luke. They also have one grandson.
