He was a lifelong resident of the Birchwood area and was the son of the late Alice Pearl Picklesimer Staton and Jessie Allen Staton. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Geneva Hardin Staton; five brothers; three sisters; and his great-grandson.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Cleveland Milling (ADM) with many years of service. He was a member of Living Waters Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dallie Jo Lankford Oresik Staton, of Georgetown; daughters: Barbara Staton Jack and Jeanette Killian-Short and her husband, Steve, all of Dayton, Ginger Self-Stevenson and her husband, Donnie, of Decatur and also Wanda Hardin Neely whom he raised as his own daughter of Georgetown; his grandsons he raised, Stewart Short of Birchwood and Sammy Staton of Cleveland; stepdaughter, Sue Dixon of Georgetown; stepsons: Kenneth, Eugene and Jimmy Lankford, all of Cleveland; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Benny Staton of Chattanooga and Douglas Staton of Charleston, and several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, from the Living Waters Church with Pastor Ronnie Kesley and the Rev. James Staton officiating.
Interment will follow in the Grasshopper Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family is now receiving friends at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
