The Lady Raiders relay team, made up by Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad, Gabby Thornton and Marissa Langford, finished in sixth place with a time of 1:45.33, advancing them to today’s finals.
This qualifying relay time shaved off a 15/100ths of a second off their previous best time of 1:45.48, which gave them the ninth best qualifying time heading into the state event.
Finals for the girls running events will begin at 7 this evening, with the girls field events taking place in the morning.
The Abdullah-Muhammad sisters will compete in the long jump finals, while teammate Hallea McClendon will compete in the shot put. Langford will participate in the triple jump and high jump competitions, while MTSU signee Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad will aso be in the triple jump field. Walker Valley’s Rachel Lawhorn will compete in the discus event.
Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad also competed in the 200-meter dash preliminaries Wednesday evening, having previously qualified with a time of 26.06 at the sectionals.
The elder Abdullah-Muhammad finished in 10th place in the prelim with a time of 26.43.
The boys running preliminaries will begin this afternoon at 4 with the 110-meter hurdles. All three local high schools will be represented in these prelims, with athletes competing in five of the nine events.
After Cleveland sophomore Isaiah Beaty participates in the pole vault finals this afternoon, his teammate Will Hilliker will be in the 110-meter hurdles prelims.
Also looking for a spot in Friday’s finals will be Cleveland’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, as well as Walker Valley’s Justin Ware in the 100-meter dash and Bradley Central’s Harold Smith in the 800-meter run.
