Area law enforcement officials are searching for the identity of a suspect wanted in connection with shoplifting thousands of dollars in items from area retailers.

Detective Bill Parks of the Cleveland Police Department said a black male who is described as large in stature has been entering various Walmart stores in Cleveland, Chattanooga and the surrounding area, loading shopping carts with merchandise and then casually walking past checkouts.

Items include electronics, housewares and other goods.

The suspect has been seen leaving the parking lots of the stores. Parks said different vehicles have been used by the suspect to make his escape.

The suspect has black hair in long, dreadlocks style.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Parks at 559-3321.

n CPD detectives are continuing an investigation into an alleged knife incident which occurred in a parking lot on Keith Street this week.

The victim stated she was leaving the area of Walmart and Staples when a man approached her car and demanded money.

The suspect then allegedly began to assault her with a razor knife. The victim was able to flee the scene and contacted police, according to a report filed by officer Julius Porter.

Porter observed the injuries the victim had received during the assault.

Officials are continuing their investigation.
