May 7 is National Teacher Day, and with the end of school season at hand, it’s a perfect time for each of us to say “thank you” to our educators.

Teachers are with our children day in and day out. They make a difference in a child’s life and it’s a responsibility they don’t take lightly.

I once heard it said that, “Summertime is the time when parents realize that teachers are grossly underpaid!” True statement.

Teachers stimulate our children’s curiosity and encourage them to learn. They teach. They explain. They demonstrate. And they inspire.

I can look back at my childhood and think of numerous teachers who affected my life in some way. It may not have been immediately in the classroom.

But throughout life’s journey, you can often find something that was taught to you by a classroom teacher.

The Bradley/Cleveland Public Education Foundation, since its inception, has been a strong support of our educational systems and our classroom teachers. This year, they initiated a new program, allowing people to “thank a teacher” in a special way.

The new “Thank A Teacher” program” is a way to express gratitude to educators and other school personnel who make a difference in a child’s life each and every day.

A contribution to the Foundation can be earmarked specially to a school and honor the educator. Gifts are tax deductible and will be used by the Foundation to sponsor grants to educators to fund creative and innovative projects that bring resources to the classroom that are not funded through the traditional school budget process.

You can thank a teacher in a special way this year. Go to the website: www.bcpef.org and find out more about “Thank A Teacher.” I applaud the Foundation for this new program, and I hope parents and businesses may use it to donate to the Foundation and to honor the men and women who are teaching their children — our future generations.
