Though written more than a century ago, those words aptly describe Brent Gill, a remarkable man whose legacy will illuminate the paths of many for years to come.

He died April 21, 2013.

His great light shone the brightest in the presence of his family and friends. An exceptionally devoted husband and father, he was known for his servant’s heart, constant smile, positive outlook and sincere humility. His gentle strength, selflessness, immense kindness and unwavering spirit inspired everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Born Dec. 3, 1942, he and his late brother, Kent, were raised in Cleveland as the sons of Mary “Diddie” and the Rev. John Howard Gill, both now deceased.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Paula; son, Johnny Gill; his daughters: Angie Gill, Bridgette Gresham and her husband, Raleigh, and Kelli Brown; adored his six grandchildren: Cayci Gill, Alex Gill Beau Gresham, Palmer Gresham, Chelsea Little and Cindy Maples, as well as nieces, nephews; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Brentwood at 5 p.m., today, April 25, 2013, in the Baskin Chapel at Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood.

The family will receive family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Brent to the Belmont Rose Garden, c/o Belmont University Office of Development, 1900 Belmont Blvd., Nashville TN 37212, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
