“I’m happy for our seniors getting a win on Senior Day. I know how much time, effort and energy they have put into this program. They have put their stamp on it and created a legacy. I’m just so proud of those three and the whole team,” said Lady Mustangs coach Lauren Limburg.
It took only one out in the bottom of the first for the Lady Mustangs to send the message they were ready to celebrate Senior Day and the last home game for Brittany Nettles, Bayleigh Morgan and Sidney Hooper.
Baylee Boen and Hooper struck the first blow with back-to-back doubles to center field. AJ Chancey stepped in to make it a 3-1 game with a home run over the center-field fence.
Two more runs crossed home for Walker Valley in the second when Hallie Davis crushed a long, high, blast well beyond the fence in left center.
After a pitching change by Limburg, the Lady Cherokees made it a 5-1 game with a home run off the bat of Rachel Lillard in the top half of the third.
“We have a lot of faith in all our girls. We have faith in Sidney, Alicia and every other girl that pitches or plays defense,” said the Walker Valley.
McMinn held the Lady Mustangs in check until the bottom of the fourth when five Walker Valley runs put the game out of reach.
Jordyn Dodson, Chancey, Rachel Percy and Alicia Raymond all singled in the inning and Bayleigh Morgan ripped a double off the left-field fence in the five-run outburst.
Dodson and Davis helped put the finishing touches on the win with a single and double. Chancey rolled a ground ball single to second with one out, allowing Dodson to make it home with the final run of the game.
“I’m really proud of the girls and proud of their hitting. Our defense played really well. They made some great plays,” said Limburg.
