Bradley County Emergency Medical Service was invited to attend the Cleveland State Community College 2013 Disaster Simulation April 18 on the college campus.

This event involved students from the nursing and emergency medical technician classes.

The scenario that was set up was made to look like a tornado had struck. Debris was strewn across the area, everything from tables, wooden pallets, tree branches, and furniture.

Students were made up to look like they had injuries and another group of students played the responders and did triage and patient care.

“The scene was very realistic. Having been involved in the tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011, this simulation really displayed injuries and scenarios that we experienced in real life,” noted Stan Clark, Bradley County EMS.

The entire event began at 8:30 a.m. and concluded at 2 p.m.

“It is great to have our local emergency services participate and give their insight to our students. The professional relationship we have developed with our local EMS is outstanding,” said Jason Holcomb, EMT instructor at Cleveland State.

Tony Finnel, EMS director for Meigs County, provided triage equipment for the students to use.

The Bradley County Fire and Rescue had a fire truck and crew on scene and Bradley County EMS designated an ambulance and two paramedics for the day.
