The Lady Cougars took an early lead in game one as Sydney Howell crushed a solo homer in the top of the second inning to put the visitors on top.
The score remained right there until the sixth inning, when the Lady Cougars (12-21, 8-17) doubled their lead. Sara O'Rear singled, moved up a base on a nice sacrifice bunt and scored on another single from Howell.
Down to their last six outs, the Lady Pioneers mounted a rally and managed to tie the game with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh. Shelby Heath singled in a run in the sixth and Megan Dattillo doubled in the tying run an inning later to force extra innings.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the ninth. Mackenzey Cowan reached base on a fielders choice, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the game-winner on a groundout as the Lady Senators finished the comeback to take game one.
Ali Austin went the distance for the Lady Senators to get the win in the circle while Ida Watson took the loss for the Lady Cougars.
Volunteer State jumped out to a quick lead to start game two and never looked back with four big runs in the second inning. Two walks led to a two-run single by Morgan Prock while Paige Cassidy followed later with a two-run double.
The Lady Cougars cut the lead in half in the top of the third as Emily Huston and O'Rear each singled and came around to score on a single from Leslie Still and a grounder from Maura Ditto to slice the lead to 4-2.
The Lady Pioneers picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Jacquelyn Roland singled in a run, pushing the lead to 5-2.
That would be all the run support that Volunteer State starting pitcher Shelby Heath would require as she finished stong to get the win. Kelsey Capella took the loss for CSCC.
