The Lee University tennis teams played their final matches of the 2013 regular season Saturday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center with the Flames coming away 7-2 winners over Milligan College, while the Lady Flames were on the downside of the same score to the visiting Lady Buffs.

Both squads will head to Montgomery, Ala., this upcoming weekend for the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships.

The Flames (4-4) won 2-of-3 in doubles play with Milligan (6-11) earning victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles.

Richard Gamble and Fabio Medina took down Andy Pullen and Colin Bumann, 8-2. Patrick Kim and Andre Ishida were 8-1 winners against Caleb Friddell and Mickey Brown.

Vincent Audy and Kevin Tan were edged, 8-5, by Sebastian Jonsson and Jackson Lenoir.

Gamble overcame a 6-1 loss in the first set of his No. 1 singles match against Pullen to record a three-set win, while Medina and Kim were easy straight-set winners over Jonsson and Lenoir, respectively.

Tan dropped his first set 6-4 and won the second set 6-1 against Friddell. The third set super-tiebreaker went in Tan’s favor, 11-9.

Ishida and Brown played a pro set with Ishida claiming an 8-6 margin.

Audy lost a tightly contest first set with a 7-5 mark in the tie-breaker. Bumann sealed the match with a 6-2 tally in the second set.

Milligan’s women (16-2) won both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches by the same 8-2 score. Lee’s No. 1 duo of Tonya Walters and Tarah Garner outlasted Grace Sarver and Sarah Rainwater, 8-5, to get the Lady Flames (4-6) on the board.

Walters would post her second win of the day at No. 1 singles. The sophomore defeated Sarver 6-1 and 6-3.

Garner defeated Rachel Hodas 6-2 in the opening set, but Hodas held her off with matching 6-3 scores in the second and third sets.
