Tennis Flames complete sweep of Wesleyan

The Lee University tennis teams completed a sweep of Tennessee Wesleyan College Tuesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center with matching 7-2 scores.

The 20th-ranked Lady Flames will be right back in action Wednesday afternoon against No. 1 Brenau University. The SSAC match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. The Flames get a short break until Milligan College makes the trek to Cleveland for an 11:30 a.m. match on Saturday.

The Lee ladies (4-4) swept the doubles portion to take an early 3-0 lead. Tonya Walters and Tarah Garner were 8-4 winners over Ekaterina Vezhenkova and Beatriz Signori.

Maclain Yowarski and Christy North won their No. 2 doubles match by the same score against Tatum McMahon and Jayden Morrison. Jodie Rice and Kelsey Lovingood did one point better by taking down Kristen Camp and Bridget Malone, 8-3.

Rice and North won their singles matches in straight sets by matching scores of 6-0 and 6-1 against Malone and Camp, respectively.

Garner won her first set 6-2 and lost the second set by the same score before holding off Signori, 6-4, to claim the three-set victory.

Katie North closed out the Lee team scoring with an 8-3 super set win over Morrison.

TWC (6-9) earned team points at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Vezhenkova edged Walters 6-4 in the opening set and ran away with the second set, 6-1. McMahon won both sets over Yowarski, 6-3.

The Lee men (3-4) also swept the doubles portion of the match. Richard Gamble and Daniel Hardesty downed Oleskii Lahuza and Bret Wade, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.

Vincent Audy and Kevin Tan were 8-4 winners over David Escobosa and Rodney Pineros, while Patrick Kim and Andre Ishida held off Gad Azulay and Francisco Gallardo for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

Gamble won both sets against Lahuza by a 6-1 margin. Patrick Kim blanked Pineros in their first set and finished the match with a 6-3 score in the second set.

Hardesty outlasted Gallardo in the closest match of the day. Hardesty posted a 7-3 score in a first-set tie-breaker for the 7-6 first set victory. Hardesty was pushed to the limits in the second set before coming out on top 7-5.

Fabio Medina was pushed in his opening set by Azulay, but was able to claim the set, 7-5. Medina carried the momentum and easily won the second set, 6-1.

TWC (8-6) earned victories at No. 2 and No. 7 singles. Escobosa held off Audy 7-5 in the first set and closed the match at 6-2 in the second set.

Wade breezed to a 6-1 opening set before having to win the second set with a 7-3 mark in a tie-breaker.
