5 Mustangs take first against Rhea

The Walker Valley Mustangs took on the Rhea County Eagles in track and field, Thursday and ended the day with five first-place finishes.

Justin Ware finished first in the 100- and 200-meter dash. Zach Hartman fished in second in both events. Jason Ware took third in the 200 meter and Caz Fulton was fifth.

The relay team of Ware, Jaylon Brown, Hartman and Justin Ware raced to the op spot in the 4x200.

For the Lady Mustangs, Rachel Lawhorn topped the field in the discus throw and shot put. Kary Klepzig finished fifth in the shot.

In the boys 4x100 relay, Will Burdin, Logan Smith, Joel Brantley and Fulton ran to a second-place finish. Trevor Brantley, Connor Clabough, Patrick Shultz and Joseph Munoz were second in the 4x400 relay and Will Burgess, Jimmy Ortiz, Ian Wesson Luke McDonald took second in the 4x800.

In the 800-meter run, Bobby Chaiffin ran to a fourth-place finish with Will Burgess ending in fifth. Clabough took fifth in the 3,200- meter run.

Will Burdin jumped to a third-place finish in the long jump with Devin Pruett taking fourth.

Also in the individual events, Fulford finished in fifth place in the shot put.

In the girls 4x400, the team of Peytin Delk, Trinity Sellers, Rhiannon Fuller and Jessica Brown took fourth.
