Parents and grandparents, and plenty of guardians, in our Cleveland and Bradley County hometown and across the state share a common trait — most stake claim to having the world’s most beautiful baby in the house.

It isn’t bragging. It’s just fact.

Obviously, our tone is lighthearted and very much tongue-in-cheek, but being proud of one’s little bundle of joy is no crime. It’s just what parents, grandparents and guardians, among a few other groups, are supposed to do.

And that brings us to our point.

For the past few weeks, area residents have been encouraged to send in photographs and entry forms for the 2013 Cleveland Cutie. This popular annual event is again being sponsored through a partnership between the Cleveland Daily Banner, SkyRidge Medical Center and WCLE Mix 104.1.

The Cleveland Cutie contest is being held in conjunction with the Cleveland Baby Fair scheduled for April 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Museum Center at Five Points.

But this Cutie reminder comes today with some urgency. The deadline for getting in those photographs and entry forms is fast approaching. Both must be submitted in person to the Cleveland Daily Banner offices at 1505 25th St. no later than Friday at 5 p.m. That’s tomorrow!

Here’s another point of urgency. The entry form was published for the final time in Tuesday’s edition. Over the last few weeks, it has been included in the Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday editions of our newspaper. So, pull out one of those issues from the growing stack of old newspapers at home or drop by the Banner office and we’ll get one of the editions for you.

Your entry form must be accompanied by a photograph of your Cutie whose age must fall within the range of newborn to 18 months. The photo must be no smaller than 4x6 nor larger than 8x10. The photo will not be returned.

The Cutie’s parent or guardian will be asked to complete a media release to allow the photo to be published. Entering a Cutie in the contest requires no fee.

Once the entry deadline has passed, a full-page ballot displaying the photographs of all contestants will be published from March 19 through March 31 in the Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday editions. Newspaper readers are asked to mark their ballot by filling out the form at the bottom of the page and mailing it back to the Banner, or drop it off in person.

Ballot deadline is 5 p.m. on April 2.

If voting by mail, send it to Cleveland Daily Banner, 1505 25th St., Cleveland TN 37311. Only actual ballots from the newspaper can be accepted. No photocopies.

The vote of the people will determine the winner of the 2013 Cleveland Cutie. The winner, who must be in attendance, will be revealed at the Baby Fair.

If not local babies, the Cutie entrants must at least be Tennessee residents.

The winner and runner-up will each receive a child’s savings account at the Bank of Cleveland and a gift card from Cooke’s Food Stores. Every entrant will receive a gift.

Got a Cleveland Cutie in the house?

Don’t be shy. Go ahead and enter the little prince or princess.

The gift card and child’s savings account are a great start in life for the tiny angel, but the bragging rights and memories are immeasurable.

And fodder for a family scrapbook? Priceless!
