A Benton city police officer and his family were involved in a crash which took the lives of two family members and a fund has been set up by officials to help them out in this time of need.
According to Benton Police Chief Rocky King, David Bloom, his wife, Linda, and their three children were traveling on Highway 411 in McMinn County Wednesday afternoon when their vehicle collided with a rollback car-hauler.
Linda Bloom, 27, and Cayla Bloom, 6, died on impact, according to King.
King said the couple’s oldest son clings to life at UT Medical Center in Knoxville and their youngest son has been treated and released. David Bloom has also been discharged from an area hospital, according to King.
The driver of the rollback was not injured during the crash, reports indicated.
Benton Mayor Jerry Stephens and the Benton Police Department have spearheaded a fund at First Volunteer Bank and First Tennessee Bank to help the family with medical and funeral expenses.
“Any donations would be greatly appreciated as there are considerable funeral and medial expenses this family is facing during this incredibly difficult time,” Stephens and King said.
Higgins Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of family arrangements.
Donations can be directed to:
First Volunteer Bank, P.O. Box 270, Benton TN 37307, or First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 330, Benton TN 37307.
